CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office of Computer Science supports the 2019 U.S. Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.  Nine student teams were selected from the state of Arkansas to receive a $1000 sponsorship from the ADE to cover registration and other expenses related to participation in the pre-national rounds of the competition. Of the nine teams selected, five were from Springdale High School! The teams selected were:

  •   The Alpha Omega team from Springdale High School,
  •   The Code Red team from Springdale High School,
  •   The Cyberian Tigers team from Springdale High School,
  •   The Night Riot team from Springdale High School, and
  •   The Tech-no-logic team from Springdale High School.

The selected teams will each receive a $1,000 sponsorship.  In addition, if any of these teams advance to the national round, then they will receive an additional $2,000 sponsorship to offset team expenses and to purchase hardware and/or software that will support their team. The Cyber Security students pictured (L to R) Gerardo Mejia, Isaac Silva, Louis Martinez Soltero, Katie Olivares, along with Brendan Tompkins (not pictured) applied for this grant on behalf of the SHS teams.  These students wrote letters explaining why they needed ADE’s sponsorship and how it was going to help them in the CyberPatriot competition.
