Congratulations to Dr. Eugene Young!
#SHShoutOut to Springdale High History teacher and Wrestling Coach, Coach Young, who is now Dr. Young!!!
Eugene Young IV attended the University of Oklahoma on a wrestling scholarship and as a National Horatio Alger Scholar from 2006 to 2009. In February of 2009, he married his high school sweetheart, Amber, whom he had dated since 2004. While wrestling, he carried a heavy course load in order to earn his Bachelor of Arts in African and African American Studies as quickly as possible. He began his career as a high school coach in fall of 2009 and the couple welcomed their first daughter in August of 2010. To accelerate his career and support his growing family, Eugene tested to obtain alternative certification rather than student teaching. Earning a Master’s in Liberal Studies with a Health Sciences concentration and emphasis in Health and Human Performance from Fort Hays State University helped him qualify for a traditional certificate as a “highly qualified” teacher. The couple welcomed their second daughter in February of 2013. In 2015, Amber’s career took them to Massachusetts. There, Eugene taught for the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District. After welcoming their third daughter in December of 2016, the family decided to move to Northwest Arkansas to be closer to extended family in Oklahoma. Eugene now teaches and coaches for Springdale Public Schools. He has also contracted with the University of Arkansas in a variety of roles including the athletic study hall coordinator and an adjunct instructor of African American History. While working full-time, Eugene attended Missouri Baptist University and achieved his goal of obtaining a doctorate in 2024. Outside of work, Eugene enjoys spending time with his wife and their three girls Amy, Mya and May. His family is active in Christ Community Church and enjoys spending time with their brothers and sisters in Christ at small group get-togethers and weekly Bible studies.
